Just when it starts to feel like spring, it's time to reach for the parka. The transition is going to take place over a few days, but the swing will be significant.
The first of two cold fronts is tracking across the region today. The strong southwest wind ahead of the front will come around to the west in the wake of it. The second cold front will move through on Saturday with a wind shift to the northwest and a more significant drop in temperatures, but that's not where it ends.
Sunday will be colder, but Monday will be the coldest day of them all. An arctic ridge of high pressure parked over the middle of the continent will pull in bitterly cold air. While temperatures will be ten or more degrees below normal, the icy north wind will make it feel even colder. Wind chill values across the region will range from -16 to -22 Monday afternoon.
March cold snaps don't often last very long; that will be the case with this one. A developing system approaching from the west will bring more spring-like temperatures ahead of what could be a late-week Sheila's Brush!
