Mid- and full-size SUVs have become the modern-day minivans. They have to combine comfort, practicality and great styling, which is a tough bill to fit, but most manufacturers rose to the challenge.
At Kia, the SUV lineup has a new leader with the introduction for 2020 of the full-size Telluride. This scooted the former flagship down a rank and the Sorento now gets the honourable title of mid-size crossover.
The facelift it received in 2019 gave the Sorento a decidedly more elegant look with sharper headlights and a more defined tiger-nose grille.
On the inside, the biggest change was the third row of seats now available across all trim levels.
While it now offers available seating for seven passengers, the Sorento remains a proper five-seater with the possibility to have two additional passengers “just in case.”
The Sorento’s interior space is well organized, spacious and comfortable. Access to the second row of seats is easy, the door opening is wide which allows easy loading and unloading of your precious bunch.
The rear bench is split 40-20-40 and the three sections can be adjusted independently. The backrest inclination can be adapted to your passengers’ needs as well as the legroom since the seats are mounted on rails and easily slide forward and back.
Korean manufacturers have built a solid reputation for the amount of standard equipment they pack into their vehicles and the Sorento is no exception, especially not the fully loaded SX.
Name it, it’s there: smart cruise control, heated seats (front AND back) also ventilated at the front, satellite radio, navigation, wireless charging, high-end audio system… you have all the necessary features to make any family road trip a great and comfortable adventure.
Kia’s UVO infotainment system is user-friendly and easy to use and the interface is clean, simple, and straightforward.
In the SX, the touchscreen measures eight inches versus the entry-level seven-inch display.
The Sorento's ride is extremely comfortable — Kia truly focused on comfort with the Sorento SX with soundproof glass and cushy suspension setup.
The 2020 Kia Sorento is a good, cozy, low-key family SUV you’ll be able to grow into.
